The Archeological Site
Tulum is a beautiful town located in the state of Quintana Roo and one of the main tourist destinations worldwide. The city gets its name from the nearby archeological site, which is one of the most well preserved in Mexico , a popular destination for tourists, because of its breathtaking, unique view of the Caribbean Sea .

Although this Mayan city reached its peak around 1200 AD, inscriptions dating from as far back as 564 AD have been found on some structures. By the time the Spaniards arrived in Tulum it was a thriving merchant port, surrounded by an enormous wall and featuring around 50 structures, some of which are still excellently preserved today. Some of the most important structures, in the 15-acre grounds, are the ocean front temple El Castillo (The Castle), the Templo del Dios Descendente (Temple of the Descending God), the Templo de los Frescos (Temple of the Frescoes), and the Templo del Viento (Temple of the Wind).

Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Mayans, and it is still one of the finest symbols of their legendary splendor and power.
